In a positioning device, a plurality of end effector drive devices (100a) are provided on the periphery of a work region of an end effector (10a), the end effector drive devices (100a) having: a fixing part (2a) extending in the movement direction of a movable part; first and second movable parts (31a, 41a, 32a, 42a) able to move along the fixed part in the movement direction of the movable parts; a variable-length arm (7a), one end of which is supported by the first movable part so as to be able to rotate in a plane; a direct drive device (8a) for making the length of the variable-length arm variable, the direct drive device (8a) being provided to the variable-length arm; a fixed-length arm (9a), one end of which is supported by the second movable part so as to be able to rotate in a plane; and the end effector (10a) rotatably supported on the same axis by the other end of the variable-length arm and the other end of the fixed-length arm.
