Abstract:
A rotary compressor (100) is provided with a compression mechanism (3), a motor (2), a suction path (14), a return path (16), a variable volume mechanism (30), an inverter (42), and a control unit (44). The return path (16) serves to return the operating fluid from the operating chamber (25) to the suction path (14). The variable volume mechanism (30) is provided in the return path (16). The variable volume mechanism (30) permits the operating fluid to return from the operating chamber (25) to the suction path (14) through the return path (16) when the suction volume of the compression mechanism (3) is to be set to a relatively small value, and the variable volume mechanism (30) prohibits the operating fluid from returning from the operating chamber (25) to the suction path (14) through the return path (16) when the suction volume is to be set to a relatively large value. The variable volume mechanism (30) and the inverter (42) are controlled so that a reduction in the suction volume is compensated by an increase in the rotational speed of the motor (2).
