Abstract:
The present invention relates to a positive electrode active material, for a lithium secondary battery, comprising a lithium tetramethylsilyl borate (LTB) coating layer and a preparation method thereof and, more particularly, to a positive electrode active material, for a lithium secondary battery, comprising: a core comprising a lithium composite transition metal oxide; and a lithium tetramethylsilyl borate coating layer on the surface of the core. A positive electrode active material according to the present invention enables a nanoscale-based artificial CEI layer to be formed on a Ni-rich NCM positive electrode surface by means of a chemical reaction between a Ni-rich NCM positive electrode material and an LTB even at room temperature. An LTB layer formed on the surface enhances the surface stability of the Ni-rich NCM positive electrode and enhances the electrochemical performance of a cell using the LTB-coated Ni-rich NCM positive electrode. A method for preparing a positive electrode active material according to the present invention is simpler and more efficient than a common coating method which requires temperature exceeding a three-digit temperature value (°C) in order to coat the surface of a Ni-rich NCM positive electrode with an inorganic material.
