Abstract:
The purpose of this invention is to provide a positive electrode active material with which it is possible to reduce DC resistance, while containing a nickel-containing lithium transition metal oxide having a high Ni content. This positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte rechargeable battery contains a Ni-containing lithium transition metal oxide (Ni ≥ 80 mol%) having a layered structure, and lithium borate, and the Ni-containing lithium transition metal oxide is made up of secondary particles obtained by aggregating primary particles. The lithium borate is adhered to the surface of the primary particles, and the ratio b of lithium borate with respect to the total molar quantity of metal elements aside from lithium in the Ni-containing lithium transition metal oxide falls within the range of 0 mol% < b ≤ 0.5 mol% when converted to elemental boron, and the void ratio h in the secondary particles is within the range of 2% < h < 6%.
