Abstract:
Provided is a positive electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery having high capacity and excellent charge-discharge cycle characteristics. The positive electrode active material contains lithium, cobalt, element X, and fluorine, and has a region having a rock salt-type structure and having a space group represented by R-3m, wherein element X is at least one selected from among elements having properties in which ΔE3 is smaller than ΔE4, where ΔE3 is a value obtained by subtracting the stabilization energy of an unsubstituted state from the stabilization energy of a substituted state in which substitutions are present at lithium sites of lithium cobaltate, ΔE4 is a value obtained by subtracting the stabilization energy of an unsubstituted state from the stabilization energy of a substituted state in which substitutions are present at cobalt sites of lithium cobaltate, and ΔE3 and ΔE4 are calculated through first principle calculation.
