Abstract:
A coating method is provided with which a functional coating film having high weatherability is easily formed without fail through electrostatic coating. A polyester powder coating composition and a fluororesin powder coating composition are dry-blended in a former-to-latter ratio of 7 to 3. The blend is electrostatically applied to a work. Thereafter, the work is heated through the atmosphere. The electrostatically applied coating powder layer has interstices among the particles of the powder coating compositions because the shapes of the particles of the powder coating compositions are irregular. It is thought that as a result of the heating through the atmosphere, the polyester powder coating composition, which has a low heat fusion temperature, melts first and passes through the interstices of the coating powder layer to form a base coating film as a lower layer, while the fluororesin powder coating composition, which has a high heat fusion temperature, melts subsequently and forms, as a surface layer, a coating film having the function of ensuring weatherability, so that the surface layer is placed on the base coating film. By taking advantages of the hot blending and the difference in melting time between the coating compositions which is caused by the increase in temperature of the work, a fluororesin coating film can be disposed as the surface layer without forming a coating film in which the fluororesin has been evenly distributed. Thus, a functional coating film for which the fluororesin was used in a reduced amount can be formed.
