Abstract:
A powder feed apparatus (1) and method for increasing the rate of flow of powder fed through a powder feed system to a powder press. The apparatus includes a housing (10) having a powder feed chamber (11), with a powder ingress opening (36) and a powder egress opening (37), and at least one vibrator (40). The powder feed chamber (11) is dimensioned to transmit a vibrational force from the vibrator (40) to powder in it such that the velocity of the powder through the powder egress opening (37) is increased over the velocity of the powder through the powder egress opening (37) in the absence of the vibrational force (i.e. using only gravity feed).
