Abstract:

A process for the production of powders, flakes, or pellets containing salts of &agr -sulfofatty acid alkyl esters in high concentrations, characterized by comprising (1) the step of production of a paste containing a salt of an &agr -sulfofatty acid alkyl ester which comprises bringing a fatty acid alkyl ester into contact with a sulfonating gas to conduct sulfonation, esterifying the product of sulfonation with a lower alcohol, neutralizing the product of esterification, and bleaching the product of neutralization, (2) the first aging step of aging the obtained paste, (3) the step of forming the aged paste into flakes or pellets having a water content of 10% by mass or below or the step of forming the aged paste into flakes or pellets having a water content of 10% by mass or below and then pulverizing the flakes or pellets into a powder having a mean particle diameter of 100 to 1,500μm, and (4) the second aging step of aging the powder, flakes or pellets.
