Abstract:
This modular multilevel converter (110) is provided with arms (A1-A6) formed by the serial connection of one or a plurality of cells (10). A main circuit of each cell (10) includes a switching element and a direct current capacitor. A power supply of each cell (10) lowers the voltage of the direct current capacitor and generates a power supply voltage that is fed to a control circuit of the cell (10). Each power supply comprises: a power supply circuit configured so as to convert the input voltage applied between first and second input terminals from the direct current converter into the power supply voltage; a thyristor electrically connected in parallel with the power supply circuit between the first and second input terminals; a current-limiting resistor electrically connected in series with the thyristor between the terminals of the direct current capacitor; and a control unit configured so as to fire the thyristor if the input voltage of the power supply circuit exceeds a threshold voltage.
