Abstract:
Provided is a power conversion device with which it is possible, even when a DC fault current flows through an AC-system side, to reduce the fault current passing through an AC breaker and safely and quickly cut the fault current. A power conversion device provided between a three-phase AC terminal and a DC terminal having a positive-side DC terminal 10a and a negative-side DC terminal 10b, the power conversion device converting power between DC and three-phase AC, wherein: the power conversion device is provided, in each of the three phases, with a positive-side arm 2a and a negative-side arm 2b serially connected between the positive-side DC terminal 10a and the negative-side DC terminal 10b, the positive-side arm 2a and the negative-side arm 2b being obtained by multistage-connecting unit converters, which include switching elements 11a, 11b and a capacitor 13; and a short-circuit switch 6 for connecting the positive-side DC terminal 10a and the negative-side DC terminal 10b via a grounding point is provided between the positive-side DC terminal 10a and the negative-side DC terminal 10b.
