This power generation system (1) is provided with: a power generation device (14) having a generator (18) and an engine (20) for driving the generator (18); and a power switching means (16). The power switching means (16) switches between the case of supplying the power obtained from the power generation device (14) to power transmission and distribution facilities (TD) and trading the power and the case of supplying the power to power customers (12). Only in normal times when the power is supplied to the power customers (12) via an external power transmission system and a specific time when a predetermined trade condition is satisfied, the power switching means (16) supplies the power to the power transmission and distribution facilities (TD) and trades the power. Meanwhile, in an emergency when the power is not supplied to the power customers (12) via the external power transmission system, the power switching means (16) supplies the power to only the power customers (12).
