This power management system manages received power that is supplied from a commercial power supply to the loads of a building and the storage battery of a vehicle and comprises: a received power detection unit for detecting the received power from the commercial power supply; a calculation unit; a load operation signal detection unit for detecting load operation signals from the loads; and a control unit. When the load operation signal detection unit detects the load operation signals, the calculation unit calculates the difference between the upper limit value of the received power and the load power that is the total value of the power consumptions of the loads including the variations of the power consumptions of the loads that have output the load operation signals, and calculates, setting this difference as the maximum value, the value of charging power supplied to the storage battery. The control unit allows the storage battery to be charged with the charging power and then allows the loads that have output the load operation signals to perform operations corresponding to the load operation signals. This makes it possible to continue charging of an electric vehicle and suppress the received power within a contract power even when the power consumptions of the loads such as, for example, home electric products increase rapidly.
