A power supply device for a power tool is provided with: an adapter that electrically connects to a power tool; a fuel cell that generates power that is supplied to the power tool via the adapter by causing an oxidative reaction between fuel and an oxidizing agent; and a charger for charging a rechargeable battery, which connects to the power tool and supplies power to the power tool, with power generated by the fuel cell. The adapter can be separated from the power tool. According to a connection determination device that determines whether the adapter and power tool are connected, the charger implements a first charging mode when the adapter and power tool are not connected, and implements a second charging mode that charges at a lower voltage and lower current than those of the first charging mode when the adapter and power tool are connected.
