Abstract:

A highly precise power transmitting member which, although capable of being manufactured at low cost, has excellent torque transmitting performance. An intermediate shaft (1) serving as a power transmitting member (A) having a hollow section (Is) extending along the axis (O). The hollow section (Is) is formed by welding a stub member (3), which serves as a second shaft member (A2), to one end of a pipe member (2), which serves as a hollow first shaft member (A1), and also by welding a stub member (4), which serves as a third shaft member (A3), to the other end of the pipe member (2). The pipe member (2) and each of the stub members (3, 4) are welded to each other with ends of the pipe member (2) and the stub member (3, 4) butted to each other. The butt surface (3a) of the stub member (3) which is butted to the pipe member (2) and the butt surface (4a) of the stub member (4) which is butted to the pipe member (2) are respectively formed as protruding tapered surfaces (7), and the butt surfaces (2a, 2a) of the pipe member (2) which are butted to the stub members (3, 4) are formed as recessed tapered surfaces (8) which can be fitted to the protruding tapered surfaces (7).
