Description:
A POWERTRAIN SUPPORT ARRANGEMENT, AND A MOBILE UNDERĀ¬

GROUND MINING MACHINE

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The invention relates to a powertrain support arrangement of a mobile underground mining machine.

Further, the invention relates also to a mobile underground mining machine.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

In a traditional powertrain system of mobile underground mining machines, a combustion engine or electric motor is connected to drive shafts, such as cardan axles, that transmit the power via axles to wheels . The traditional powertrain systems with drive shafts, such as cardan axles, need space that for example limits effective hauling capacity of a mobile underground mining machine. The traditional powertrain systems with drive shafts, such as cardan axles, may make the design, construction, assembly, and maintenance of the mobile underground mining machine difficult .

Mobile work machines, such as used in the construction, agriculture, forestry, mining, and other industries, are made for operation in off-road environments to carry or haul heavy loads. Such mobile work machines usually have a heavy-duty build with a heavy-duty power source providing power to various work implements and propelling the mobile work machine on wheels or tracks of various configurations . Various applications may require the mobile work machine to deliver high-torque, low-speed power to the wheels or tracks, or to various implements, in loaded operational conditions. At other times, relatively high-speed, low-torque operation may be required of these work ve- hides , such a s when unloaded and/or in transit . To facilitate both the high-torque demands at times and the high- speed demands at other time s , the mobile work machines may have heavy-duty axle as semblies that incorporate or cooperate with various gear as semblies to provide a high-ratio gear reduction to the wheels or tracks . The axle as semblies may transmit power to the wheels or tracks solely f rom the prime mover , or they may be powered themselves . Powered axle as semblies have one or more embedded electric or hydraulic drives that are powered by the primary power source to directly drive the wheels or tracks that propel the mobile work machine .

OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION

An obj ective of the invention is to alleviate the disadvantage s mentioned above and to provide a novel powertrain support arrangement of a mobile underground mining machine .

Another further obj ective is to provide a mobile underground mining machine with a powertrain support arrangement with a hub motor arrangement .

In an embodiment it may be possible to control and adjust the oscillation of the powertrain support arrangement. In an embodiment a first end of the suspension device 23, 24 may be arranged on the cradle 20 or on the axle housing 6 and a second end of the suspension device may be arranged on the frame 2 or the chassis of the mobile underground mining machine. The suspension devices may be arranged to suspend in a vertical direction. The suspension devices may be arranged to also suspend the swinging of the axle or the cradle. In an embodiment a suspension device e.g. , a suspension link 39, such as a Panhard rod, may be arranged to support in a lateral direction. In an embodiment a first end of the suspension link 39 may be arranged on the cradle 20 or on the axle housing 6 and a second end of the suspension link may be arranged on the frame 2 or the chassis of the mobile underground mining machine. In an embodiment it may be possible to control and adjust the oscillation of the cradle 20 and/or the axle housing 6 in relation to the oscillation axis 21. In an arrangement it may be possible to control and adjust the swinging and/or rotation of the cradle and/or the axle housing 6 in relation to the oscillation axis 21 with the cradle bearing 22. In an embodiment the cradle bearing 22 may be a spherical bearing e.g. , a ball joint. The cradle 20 may be arranged to the frame 20 of the mobile underground mining machine via the cradle bearing 22. The cradle bearing 22 may have connecting elements for attaching the cradle bearing and the cradle to the frame of the mobile underground mining machine.

In an embodiment of the powertrain support arrangement a rib 27 may be arranged on an axle housing. The rib 27 may be a reinforcing rib. In an embodiment a plurality of ribs 27 may be arranged on a wall 6' of the axle housing. In an embodiment the rib 27 may be arranged extending between the first end 7 and the second end 7' of the axle housing. In an embodiment the rib may be arranged between the inboard support elements 26 of the powertrain support structure. In an embodiment the rib may be arranged on an outer surface of the wall 6' of the axle housing 6.

In an embodiment the axle housing 6 may be provided by a movement limiter 28. In an embodiment of figure 3 two movement limiters 28 have been arranged on the axle housing 6. A counter element 29 for the movement limiter 28 may be arranged on the frame or the chassis of the mobile underground mining machine. In an embodiment the movement limiters 29 may be arranged to limit a vertical movement of the axle or the cradle to the frame or to chassis.

At each end of the axle housing 6 may be one of the hub motor arrangements 30 well as power transmission, brake and housing components that facilitate mounting and rotation of the wheels 3, 4. In some embodiments, these components at each end of the axle housing 6 are identical or mirror image parts such that the components at only one end of the axle housing 6 will be detailed herein. It should be understood that the description below of the first end 7 of the axle housing 6 may thus be considered a description of the corresponding components at the second end 7' end of the axle housing 6. It should also be understood that in some embodiments the components at the first end of the axle housing 6 may differ from those at the second end.

In an embodiment a first hub motor arrangement is mounted (e.g. , bolted) with connecting elements 35, 36 in fixed position to the first end and a second hub arrangement to the second end of the axle housing 6. The hub motor arrangement may have a generally cylindrical geometry. The wheels 3, 4 may be ar- ranged to be connected to a wheel head 33 of the hub motor arrangement via wheel fastening elements 37. The wheel head of the hub motor arrangement is rotated by the hub motor i.e. , the electric motor 38 of the hub motor arrangement possible via the speed transforming transmission 31 i.e. , the gear.

In an embodiment of the hub motor arrangement a drive may be an electric drive and may include an electric motor 38 at least partially, if not entirely, positioned within the space 17 of the axle housing 6.

In an embodiment the electric drive of the hub motor arrangement may be powered by, or part of, the power train and receives power from the prime power source of the mobile underground mining machine. In an embodiment, the prime power source may be a battery or batteries. The electrical power may be stored in the one or more batteries. In an embodiment, the prime power source may be an engine, which provides mechanical power that is converted to electrical power through the power conversion components and the one or more batteries of the power train. In the claims term powertrain may comprise hub motors e.g. , an electric motor, possible gear, a hub wheel i.e. , a hub. There may be also other components in the powertrain that may not be placed in the power train support arrangement but placed in other location of the mobile underground mining machine.

In an embodiment of the powertrain support arrangement the arrangement may be arranged as a retrofit to a used mobile underground mining machine. In an embodiment of the powertrain support arrangement the arrangement may be utilised in an assembly of a new mobile underground mining machine.

It is obvious to a person skilled in the art that with the advancement of technology, the basic idea of the invention may be implemented in various ways . The invention and its embodiments are thus not limited to the examples described above , instead they may vary within the s cope of the claims .
