Abstract:
Provided are: a precious wood-tone compacted material which is obtained by processing general-purpose wood that is a comparatively abundantly available resource, which has a surface quality comparable to woods referred to as meiboku (precious woods), which imparts a sense of weight as well as surface quality for ebony, rosewood and the like, and which can be used for high-grade furniture and fittings with excellent physical properties; and a method for manufacturing the precious wood-tone compacted material. The surface quality and sense of weight of the desired precious wood are provided by compacting and fixing general-purpose wood. The value of the color difference (ΔE*ab) between the surface quality of the precious wood tone compacted material and the precious wood is 5 or less in the (L*a*b*) color system. With respect to the sense of weight, the value of the air-dry density after compacting and fixing is within the range 0.8-1.5(g/cm3).
