Abstract:
Provided are: a preprocessing liquid that has superior storage stability, has a pH that does not become acidic even when stored over the long term, and by means of which a mottling effect does not arise even when used with a recording material that is non- or poorly absorbent; and a recording method using same. The preprocessing liquid contains a cation-modified polymer, does not contain a coloring agent, and has a pH that has been adjusted to at least 7.0 by means of a pH adjuster represented by formula (2). In formula (2), R5, R6, and R7 each independently represent a hydroxyalkyl group or the like. After the preprocessing liquid is adhered to the recording material, an ink composition containing a coloring agent is adhered to the recording material by means of an inkjet method, thus performing recording.
