Abstract:
Provided are a pressing force variable mechanism that is capable of suppressing overrunning of an eccentric cam, a fixing apparatus that is provided with same, and an image forming apparatus. This pressing force variable mechanism is provided with: an eccentric cam (82); a pressed member (81) that is pressed by the eccentric cam; a drive source (61); and an intermediate gear (62) that transmits driving force generated by the drive source to the eccentric cam. The eccentric cam includes: an equal-radius area (R3) in which the distance from a rotation center (O82) to the outer peripheral surface is equal to that of a top dead center (P2) and which is provided on the downstream side of the top dead center in the moving direction of a contact position with the pressed member; and a radius-increase area (R2) in which the distance from the rotation center to the outer peripheral surface increases closer to the top dead center and which is provided on the upstream side of the top dead center in the moving direction of the contact position with the pressed member. Sliding resistance between the equal-radius area and the pressed member is larger than that between the radius-increase area and the pressed member.
