Abstract:

The present invention addresses the important problem of reducing the weight and increasing the buoyancy of a pressure-resistant glass sphere used in exploration of deep ocean waters, ocean floors, etc., while maintaining high pressure-resistance properties so as to enable repeated use and resistance of high pressure in deep ocean waters, etc. The present invention is a pressure-resistant glass sphere obtained by joining a pair of hollow glass hemispheres, fitting surfaces at the equatorial plane of the pair of hollow glass hemispheres being used as bonding surfaces, wherein the pressure-resistant glass sphere is characterized in that the thickness of the spherical shell in an equatorial plane part at a prescribed width from the fitting surfaces is set greater than the thickness of the spherical shell in portions other than the equatorial plane part.
