Abstract:
In a process for producing an aromatic carboxylic acid, when a chelate resin having a pyridine ring, which is used in the step for absorbing and collecting a bromide ion and a heavy metal ion derived from a catalyst by means of an oxidation reaction mother liquor, is being subjected to pretreatment, said resin would swell, produce heat, or generate air bubbles, causing the resin to fracture or deteriorate. Under predetermined conditions, a chelate resin having a pyridine ring is brominated using an aqueous hydrobromic acid solution, as the first treatment, and is displaced in an acetic acid solvent in the subsequent second treatment, thereby being able to prevent said resin from fracturing and deteriorating.
