Abstract:

The print start position of a print object in a predetermined direction is determined with high precision and with high efficiency. A printer wherein sensing means is positioned on one side in a moving direction. A print object is transported in a predetermined direction to a sensing position where the sensing means detects the print object. If the upper edge, on the opposite side to that where the sensing means is positioned, out of the left and right sides, of the print object passes over the sensing position by a predetermined distance, the sensing means is moved to the opposite side to the one side in the moving direction, and the print object is transported from the sensing position in the opposite direction to the predetermined direction by transporting means, then transported to the sensing position where the sensing means detects the print object in the predetermined direction, and further transported from the sensing position in the predetermined direction by a predetermined distance.
