Abstract:

A printer employing a platen roller as a feed means, in which the assembling accuracy of the components constituting a drive transmission mechanism for driving the platen roller is enhanced and small size/high output can be achieved by improving heat dissipation of a drive source, i.e. a motor. The printer comprises a platen roller for feeding a recording sheet, a print head disposed oppositely to the a platen roller, a platen roller drive unit, and a main frame having a pair of sidewall sections capable of supporting the platen roller rotatably. The drive unit comprises a motor, an intermediate gear for transmitting the rotational driving force of the motor to the platen roller, and a gear fixing member having a shaft for supporting the intermediate gear formed integrally. The drive unit can be fixed to the main frame in a state where the motor and the intermediate gear are fixed to the gear fixing member. The drive gear of the motor and the intermediate gear are contained in a space defined by the gear fixing member and one sidewall of the main frame.
