A printer having a control unit for controlling a motor and a print head so that the print head performs printing during a period in which the motor exceeds a predetermined speed from a stopped state and so that the motor stops after a deceleration period, wherein the control unit controls the motor and the print head so that the deceleration period includes at least a first deceleration period during which the print head performs printing while the motor is decelerated to a predetermined speed and a second deceleration period during which the motor is decelerated until the motor stops after the first deceleration period, the first deceleration period has a characteristic in which the rotation of the paper roll decelerates more slowly than a free deceleration characteristic, and the second deceleration period has a characteristic in which the rotation of the paper roll decelerates more quickly than the free deceleration characteristic, the free deceleration characteristic being the change characteristics of the speed assuming that the rotation of the paper roll during rotation of the motor at a speed immediately before the deceleration period decelerates due to friction against an accommodation unit without receiving external force from a feeding mechanism.
