Abstract:

Disclosed is a probe shape detection device comprising: first and second magnetic field detection units which each detect a magnetic field generated from a magnetic field generation element provided in the longitudinal direction of an elongated probe as magnetic field components in three axial directions orthogonal to each other and output a magnetic field detection signal corresponding to an electromotive force group generated when the magnetic field components are detected; a candidate vector calculation unit which calculates a candidate vector indicating the direction of the magnetic field generation element on the basis of the electromotive force group generated in the first magnetic field detection unit and one piece of candidate position information; an estimated electromotive force calculation unit which calculates estimated electromotive force on the basis of the one piece of candidate position information and the candidate vector; and an estimated position acquisition unit which acquires, as the estimated position of the magnetic field generation element, a candidate position where an error between the electromotive force group generated in the second magnetic field detection unit and the estimated electromotive force is minimum.
