Title:
PROCESS AND COMPOSTING DEVICE FOR REUTILIZING ORGANIC REFUSE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO1991003441
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for reutilizing organic refuse for the purpose of producing permanent humus, substrates and manure, in which the organic refuse is size reduced, composted and reutilized by decomposing it to humus products. The invention also relates to a composting device which accommodates one or more windrows. To obtain humus products by decomposition of organic refuse in the briefest possible time, the organic refuse is size reduced by shredding and beating in the longitudinal direction of the fibres, mixed and moistened to a moisture content between 50 and 65 vol. %, referred to the total mass. It is then placed in a compostable windrow in the open air. When its temperature falls below 65 DEG C, the windrow is moved to another site where it is again forcibly mixed, broken, restructured and moistened to a moisture content of up to 65 vol. %. The recompostable windrow produced by moving is stored until the ratio of the C contents to the N contents is not more than 25:1. The moisture content is then reduced to 22 % and the windrow material is screened. The composting device used for this purpose consists essentially of a trough-shaped bed made from a film impermeable to liquid, which is filled to the brim with bottoming permeable to liquid. The trough defined by the film has depressions each of which has an outlet. Any necessary water can be added from a trickling installation.
