Abstract:
A process for fabricating a spherical end cap casting, comprising the steps of: (1) melting: placing pig iron into an electric furnace for melting, simultaneously adding a refining agent, and melting for 2 to 3 hours at a temperature of 1550 to 1580ºC; (2) molding: creating a mold in accordance with the spherical end cap design, said mold comprising an upper mold and a lower mold, assembling the upper mold and lower mold onto a core shooter, using the core shooter to fill up the mold with casting sand, and after solidifying the casting sand into shape by heating at a temperature of 80 to 100ºC, spraying a high-temperature-resistant coating on the inner surfaces of the solidified casting sand; (3) pouring: adding an inoculant to the molten iron in step (1) at a temperature of 1320 to 1350ºC, and pouring the iron into the mold in step (2) for a duration of 18 to 25 seconds; upon completion of pouring, allowing to naturally cool before subjecting to cleaning and surface treatment to obtain the finished spherical end cap product. The fabrication process is simple and conserves energy, and the addition of the refining agent enhances the purity of the molten iron for pouring, reducing shrinkage of the casting surface and increasing the purity of the casting. The spraying of the high-temperature-resistant coating into the solidified casting sand allows the molten iron to flow evenly, reducing blisters and blowholes.
