Abstract:
A process of forming an identification marking within article formed from an at least partially optically transparent material (810) for identification and validation, process including the steps of (i) forming an indicia with the at least partially optically transparent material (810) by way of subsurface laser engraving (SSLE); and (ii) forming a plurality of defects (130) within or adjacent indicia within the at least partially optically transparent material (810) resultant of the step of forming the indicia and from localized heating and irregularities in the at least partially optically transparent material (810), wherein the plurality of defects (130) forms the identification marking.
