Title:
PROCESS FOR FRESHWATER PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2007/055019
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
[PROBLEMS] To provide a process for freshwater production wherein mainly sodium chloride can be efficiently removed at low cost from seawater containing various nutrient salts with good balance to thereby produce freshwater finding application in agricultural culture fluids, liquid fertilizers and/or agricultural water, etc. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] There is provided a process comprising treating seawater with a thermally treated hydrotalcite-like compound available at low cost, excelling in stability and having a high chloride ion exchange capacity; subsequently neutralizing the resultant alkali solution; and thereafter treating the neutralized solution with zeolite to remove sodium ions to thereby realize production of agricultural culture fluids, liquid fertilizers and/or agricultural water at low cost. In this process, a large volume of seawater can be efficiently desalted once without the need of any special apparatus.
