Abstract:
A process for easily and safely producing from inexpensive materials an optically active 1,4-benzodioxane derivative useful as an intermediate for medicines, etc. The process comprises sulfonylating an optically active triol compound (5) obtained by the reaction of catechol (2) with an optically active 3-halogeno-1,2-propanediol (3) to obtain an optically active trisulfonate (6) and cyclizing the trisulfonate (6) with a base to produce an optically active 1,4-benzodioxane (1).
