Abstract:
A process for obtaining a sorbent for extracting lithium from solutions involves carrying out electrolysis of a 0.5 to 3.0 mol aqueous solution of lithium chloride in the presence of an aluminium anode to produce a precipitate of a binary base chloride of lithium and aluminium of the formula: LiCl.2Al(OH)3.nH2O which is removed and treated with water. The quantity of water used is chosen to ensure a quantity of lithium in the sorbent obtained of 5.0 to 8.0 mg per 1 g of the sorbent. The product obtained is dried at a temperature not higher than 70 �C.
