Abstract:
A process for preparing a hydrolyzable sheet which is usable as wet wipes and has improved wet strength and dispersibility in water. The process comprises the step of making a hydrolyzable sheet from a mixture of lowly water-swellable or water-insoluble carboxymethylcellulose having a degree of substitution (D.S.) of 0.30 to 0.60 and a pH of at least 5.0 and/or salts thereof with water-dispersible fibers, and chlorine is added to the mixture before or after the sheet-making step.
