Abstract:
A process for preparing a polyhydroxy carboxylic acid having a weight-average molecular weight of 50,000 or above and excellent properties as a biodegradable plastic, wherein a lactide compound is subjected to ring-opening polymerization in the presence of an inorganic solid acid catalyst containing silica and/or a light metal.
