Title:
PROCESS FOR PREPARING POLYURETHANE FOAM
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1990/013584
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Process for preparing soft, low density polyurethane foam comprises preparing a foam formulation comprising an isocyanate component, a polyether polyol component, water and a catalyst for the formation of methane linkages in the foam formulation and thereafter allowing the foam formulation to foam and cure. The process is characterized in that at least part of the catalyst for the formulation of urethane linkage in the foam formulation is provided in the form of a salt of a bicyclic amidine. Preferred salts are the formate, 2-ethylhexanoate, oleate and phenolate salt of a bicyclic amidine. The present process eliminates the need for the use of chlorofluorocarbons, and produces polyurethane foams having good compression set and improved stability.
