Abstract:
The process proposed for producing an aluminium-strontium alloy involves the electrolytic decomposition of a melt consisting of a mixture of strontium and potassium chlorides at the anode and cathode. The cathode used is liquid aluminium which is agitated during the process of electrolytic decomposition of the chloride melt. The proposed electrolyzer comprises a bath (1) with an anode (4) and a cathode (6). The cathode (6) is the liquid aluminium in the lower part of the bath (1) which is provided with an agitation device (8) and an element (12) for conducting current to the cathode (6), which has a protective covering to prevent any chemical reaction with the alloy.
