Abstract:
A process capable of producing a fired product constituted of an aluminum titanate ceramic which can have a low degree of shrinkage in firing (firing shrinkage) and has excellent resistance to thermal decomposition. The process for producing an aluminum titanate-based fired product includes the step of firing a molded object of a raw-material mixture comprising an aluminum source powder, a titanium source powder, and a magnesium source powder, the titanium source powder having specific particle diameter distribution characteristics. It is preferable that, in the raw-material mixture, the ratio of the molar amount of the aluminum source powder in terms of Al2O3 to the molar amount of the titanium source powder in terms of TiO2 be in the range of from 35:65 to 45:55 and the ratio of the molar amount of the magnesium source powder in terms of MgO to the sum of the molar amount of the aluminum source powder in terms of Al2O3 and the molar amount of the titanium source powder in terms of TiO2 be in the range of 0.03-0.15.
