Abstract:
Provided is an industrially advantageous production process for obtaining a benzaldehyde compound with high yield from a benzyl alcohol compound. A process for producing an aromatic aldehyde compound represented by formula (2) (2) in which an aromatic methyl alcohol compound represented by formula (1) (1) and a peroxide are reacted in the presence of at least one metal compound selected from molybdenum compounds and tungsten compounds, and at least one salt selected from quaternary ammonium salts and organic phosphonium salts, with the pH of the reaction solution at 0.01 or greater and less than 10.
