Title:
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING BASE MATERIAL OF OPTICAL FIBER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2006/077781
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
This invention provides a process for producing a base material of an optical fiber in which a starting member is rotated around the axis and, while relatively reciprocating the starting member or a burner, soot is deposited on the starting member to produce a base material of an optical fiber. The process is characterized in that, during the deposition of 15 to 85% by weight of the target deposition amount, for each single relative movement or plurality of times of relative movement, both the rotating speed of the starting member and the relative movement speed between the starting member and the burner are reduced. The production is preferably carried out in such a manner that v/r ratio falls within 1 < v/r < 5, wherein r represents rotating speed, rpm, and v represents relative movement speed, mm/min, and is varied during the deposition. According to this production process, a base material of an optical fiber, which has no significant concaves and convexes in the radial direction and has no significant variation in diameter in the longitudinal direction, can be produced without lowering the soot deposition efficiency and soot density.
