Abstract:

A process for easily producing the carbapenem derivative shown below. The process, which is for producing a carbapenem derivative represented by the following formula (5): (5) (wherein R^4a means R⁴ or an organic group), is characterized by reacting a compound represented by the formula (1) (wherein R¹ means a hydroxy-protecting group; R² and R³ each means hydrogen or lower alkyl; R⁴ and R⁵ each means an ester residue; and Y means oxygen or sulfur) in the presence of a Lewis acid and a Lewis base and optionally causing a mercaptan derivative to act on the resultant reaction product.
