Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for producing chlorine, in which an oxidation reaction can proceed satisfactorily even when hydrogen chloride containing a sulfur component is used.
Specifically disclosed is a process for producing chloride by supplying oxygen and hydrogen chloride containing a sulfur component to a reaction tube (1) equipped with a catalyst-filled layer (10) to cause the oxidation of the hydrogen chloride, thereby producing chlorine. In the process, the catalyst-filled layer (10) contains a layer (20) filled with an alumina-mixed catalyst, the layer (20) comprises a mixture of a catalyst (3) and alumina (a diluents: 4), and the alumina has a BET specific surface area of 10 to 500 m2/g. The alumina is preferably γ-alumina and/or θ-alumina.
