A process for producing cumene, characterized by subjecting cumyl alcohol and hydrogen to the action of a dehydration catalyst to obtain a mixture comprising the &agr -methylstyrene and water generated and hydrogen and subjecting the mixture to the action of a hydrogenation catalyst.
