Abstract:
Provided is a process for producing a cyclic acetal form of 3-oxocyclopentane-1-carboxylic acid more efficiently and industrially advantageously. The process for producing a cyclic acetal form of 3-oxocyclopentane-1-carboxylic acid represented by the general formula (V) is characterized by reacting 3-oxocyclopentane-1-carboxylic acid represented by the general formula (I) with a diol compound represented by the general formula (II) in the presence of an acid catalyst to obtain a mixture of a cyclic acetal monoester derivative and a cyclic acetal diester derivative, and then hydrolyzing the mixture under basic conditions. (I) (II) (V) (In the formulae, R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6 and R7 each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group which may have a substituent or an aryl group which may have a substituent; R8, R9, R10, R11, R12 and R13 each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group which may have a substituent, or arbitrary two of them may form a ring together with the carbon atom to which they are linked; and n represents 0 or 1.)
