Abstract:

An apparatus for float sheet glass production that can not only realize a compact circulatory channel of molten metal but also suppress any heat loss. There is provided a process for producing a float sheet glass, comprising carrying out sheet glass formation while providing depressed zones on a melt surface through suction of molten metal in approximately the vertical direction along two-side edges of a molten glass ribbon and effecting flow of the two-side edges into the depressed zones and retention thereof, wherein the molten metal is circulated through a circulatory channel consisting of an outward pipe and a return pipe so as to provide the above depressed zones, and wherein any molten metal having flowed out of the outward pipe is circulated through the return pipe disposed between the outward pipe and firebrick members arranged outside the outward pipe at given intervals so as to cover the outward pipe.
