Abstract:
A process for producing fluoromethyl hexafluoroisopropyl ether ((CF3)2CH-O-CH2F), which includes the step of reacting bisfluoromethyl ether with hexafluoroisopropyl alcohol in the presence of a catalytic amount of either sulfuric acid or a strong acid that has a higher acid strength than sulfuric acid, in a solvent which is substantially immiscible with hydrogen fluoride. With such process, fluoromethyl hexafluoroisopropyl ether can be industrially produced using neither hydrogen fluoride nor a large amount of an acid such as sulfuric acid and consequently without producing a large amount of acid waste as a by-product.
