Abstract:

A process for highly selectively obtaining a hydrogenated ester which comprises hydrogenating an ester containing an unsaturated group having a specific structure. The hydrogenation reaction is conducted preferably after the ester as a starting material is diluted with an inert solvent and/or after the concentration of a carboxylic acid contained in the starting material is reduced to 1 wt.% or lower. The hydrogenation is preferably conducted using a catalyst which contains at least one metal selected among the elements in Groups 8, 9, and 10 of the Periodic Table and has acid sites in an amount of 1.0x10?-1¿ mmol/g or smaller.
