Abstract:

A process and apparatus for producing (meth)acrolein or (meth)acrylic acid through vapor-phase catalytic oxidation, in which the temperature of a heat carrier can be smoothly controlled, hot spots can be effectively diminished, and handling is easy. The process comprises catalytically oxidizing propane, propylene, isobutylene, or (meth)acrolein with an oxygen-containing gas in a vapor phase using an inorganic salt as a heat carrier for reaction temperature regulation. The process and apparatus for the production of (meth)acrolein or (meth)acrylic acid are characterized in that a heat carrier feeder is employed which has disposed therein a control valve for regulating the rate of heat carrier feed and circulation and in which the ground packing member slidably sealing both the body part of the control valve and a rotating shaft fitted to the body part is made of a mica-based material.
