Abstract:
A method of simply and easily producing a wire from MgB2 exhibiting critical temperature Tc = 39 K. This method comprises the steps of: (a) preparing a mixed raw material consisting of powdery Mg and B, or a mixed raw material consisting of mixed powder of powdery Mg and B combined with MgB2 powder; (b) compression molding the obtained mixed raw material into pellets; (c) hermetically charging the obtained pellets in a metal tube coated with a carbon material, or first coating the pellets with a carbon material and hermetically charging the coated pellets in a metal tube; (d) working the metal tube having the pellets hermetically charged therein into a wire; and (e) according to necessity, coiling the obtained wire and performing heat treatment thereof in a pressurized inert gas atmosphere.
