Title:
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING MOLTEN IRON
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2004/050921
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A process for producing molten iron, comprising charging a raw material mixture composed of a carbonaceous reducing agent, a material containing iron oxide and a CaO-containing material onto the hearth of a movable furnace hearth type reduction furnace, effecting thermal reduction of the raw material mixture in the reduction furnace and melting the same in a melting furnace to thereby obtain molten iron, wherein the amount of CaO-containing material incorporated in the raw material mixture is so regulated that the amount of CaO-containing material additionally charged in the melting furnace so as for the basicity of slug formed in the melting furnace to become 1.1 or higher is 40 kg or less per ton of molten iron obtained from the melting furnace. Thus, a molten iron of high iron contents purity can efficiently be produced with high productivity.
