Title:
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING OPTICALLY ACTIVE FLUOROBENZYL ALCOHOL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2007/043407
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A fluorobenzaldehyde is reacted with an alkyl Grignard reagent to convert them into a magnesium alkoxide of a racemic fluorobenzyl alcohol. Subsequently, the magnesium alkoxide is reacted with phthalic anhydride to obtain a half ester of phthalic acid with the racemic fluorobenzyl alcohol. The half ester is optically resolved with optically active 1-phenylethylamine. Thereafter, the ester group is hydrolyzed. Thus, an optically active fluorobenzyl alcohol is produced.
