Title:
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING PIGMENT-CONTAINING MODIFIED POLYMER PARTICLES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2016/104505
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention relates to: [1] a process for producing pigment-containing modified polymer particles, the process comprising reacting, in a medium, pigment-containing polymer particles (A) with a compound (B) having one reactive group that reacts with a functional group of the polymer particles (A), under such conditions that the ratio of the total number of moles of reactive groups of the compound (B) to the total number of moles of functional groups of the polymer particles (A), (B)/(A), is 0.10-0.62; [2] an aqueous pigment dispersion comprising an aqueous medium and, dispersed therein, modified polymer particles obtained by the process; and [3] an ink comprising the aqueous pigment dispersion and an organic solvent. The modified polymer particles are free from the formation of coarse particles during production of pigment particles. The ink, when being concentrated by water vaporization, is inhibited from increasing in viscosity. When printed on a lowly water-absorbing recording medium, the ink gives a print having excellent scratch resistance.
