PROCESS FOR PRODUCING PLUGGED HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE

A transparent sheet is stuck to an end face of honeycomb structure, and an image thereof is taken. With respect to cells (normal cells) other than cells lying at the outermost circumferential portion (outermost circumferential cells), the taken image is subjected to image processing to thereby attain recognition of the positions thereof, on the basis of which locations of the sheet corresponding to cells to be plugged are perforated. With respect to the outermost circumferential cells, the positions thereof are recognized by computation from the average cell pitch computed from the positions of normal cells recognized by the above image processing, on the basis of which locations of the sheet corresponding to cells to be plugged are perforated. Thereafter, through the perforations made in the sheet, the end portions of the cells to be plugged are filled with a plugging slurry, thereby forming plugged portions.
